MR-0060 Open Question

Measured drawings of Great House Farm beyond the 1974 ground plan: first floor, roof, heights, the farm ranges and the yard (open question)

Open question.

Why: Cross-reference (RCAHMW NA/GL/88/49 and NA/GL/89/208; the 1974 record card; Cadw photographs of 29 July 1988; OS 25-inch map about 1900).

The replica plans for the house are built from the 1974 measured ground plan (NA/GL/89/208) and the 1974 record card, which give the outline and the room sizes. RCAHMW NA/GL/88/49 records that the first floor and roof trusses could not be examined in 1974. No record held gives the heights, the roof pitch, the first-floor layout, the size of the 19th-century east extension, the door and window positions, the sizes and uses of the farm ranges, or the line of the yard and boundary walls. In the replica plans these values are inferred and marked so, with wide tolerances. Open question: whether any photograph, survey or plan from 1900 to 1988 records them.

Who should hold it: Not known. Possible holders: RCAHMW (National Monuments Record), Glamorgan Archives (1975 survey photographs, 1971 aerial photographs), Welsh Government (aerial photography), the press photograph collections

Date of the record: 1974-1988

What would fill this page: a dated photograph taken square to a wall with a known length, an aerial photograph showing the roofs, or a plan or survey of the farm buildings; any of these replaces an inferred value in the replica register.
