MR-0056 Not Held (Heneb); Other Holders Not Yet Asked

Loss and fire records of the March 1983 Trust warehouse fire

Should exist. Not held.

Why: Cross-reference (EV-0068, South Wales Echo 18 Mar 1983); practice (a charitable trust's annual report records major losses; the Trust's annual reports and publications 1977-95 are listed in an archive catalogue); practice (a brigade completed a Home Office fire report for each fire attended; form not checked).

Full title: loss record and fire report for the March 1983 warehouse fire that destroyed Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust finds, Llandough finds among them. A press report of 18 March 1983 (EV-0068) records a warehouse fire that destroyed the Trust's stored finds; finds from Llandough are reported among the losses. A trust that loses its stored finds reports the loss to its trustees and in its annual report, and the fire brigade that attended completed a fire report. These are the only records that would show which Llandough finds and site records burned, and what survived. Heneb, the Trust's successor, replied on 29 October 2026 that it holds no records on the fire or the finds' custody, so the record now sits with other holders. Parcel: not identified (whether the Llandough finds came from Cedwyn land is not checked).

Who should hold it: West Glamorgan Archive Service (Trust annual reports and publications 1977-95, not checked whether the 1982-84 reports cover the fire); Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service as successor to the 1983 brigade (succession not checked); Heneb (successor to the Trust) states it holds nothing

Date of the record: 1983
