The 1916 probate calendar (p.301) records a grant of probate, not administration, so a will existed and was proved. Under the probate rules of the time the original will and the registry copy were kept by the probate registry, and they are still held. The will would show how a widow "of Great House Farm" described what she left, whether the farm, its stock or any interest in the land is mentioned, and who she named. Effects were £585 7s 6d (about £66,000 at 2026 prices). It is the nearest family-side document to the February 1916 Bute estate tenancy document, which followed within weeks.

Who should hold it: HM Courts & Tribunals Service, Probate (copy orderable from the probate index); the family (original papers, not checked)

Date of the record: 1915–1916
