Tŷ Mawr: the Great House of Llandough

The historic environment record lists Tŷ Mawr, beside the church of St Dochdwy, as the principal freehold of the parish, with details pointing to the seventeenth century.

The historic environment record kept by Heneb, cited into the Cedwyn archive by the Royal Commission, lists Tŷ Mawr by the church of St Dochdwy at Llandough as the principal freehold holding of the parish. Details found in the house pointed to the seventeenth century.

The same record places the manor courts of Llandough and Leckwith at Tŷ Mawr. In 1908 the manor court remembered John Williams of Tŷ Mawr as “for many years a juror of the court”.

Around 1841 the tithe puts John Williams on 36 plots, the whole Tŷ Mawr holding. His granddaughter Mary (Nancy) Williams lived in the house until her death in 1983.
