Lavernock Point, 11 May 1897

From the cliff at Lavernock the first wireless messages crossed open sea, to Flat Holm and a week later to Brean Down. The guided tour stops there.

On 11 May 1897, from the clifftop at Lavernock near Penarth, the first wireless messages crossed open sea: to Flat Holm, and a week later to Brean Down.

That spring the young Guglielmo Marconi came to the Severn Sea, the Welsh papers followed every step, and a Cardiff engineer, a Mr Williams, worked beside him.

Lavernock Point is one of nine stops on the Cedwyn Estate guided tour, which runs from the site of Tŷ Mawr at Llandough out to the point and back.
