Sources and inspection status
Catalogue references: C17832718 and C17832716. Their parent piece is HO 129/581, Cardiff, 1851. Descriptions were checked against the National Archives Discovery API on 31 October 2026. The original return forms were not inspected. The API marks both item records digitised:false; this does not establish whether images are available by another route.
Limits
Not stated is not zero. The figures are estimated attendance at particular services, not unique worshippers or parish population. The catalogue identifies Llandough Village, Penarth, not Llandough near Cowbridge. It does not identify a tithe plot, a farm parcel, a family relationship or any title interest.
The Llandough catalogue gives the date erected as "before 1800". A published secondary account describes the medieval church as demolished in 1820 and replaced (St Dochdwy's Church, Llandough). The catalogue wording may concern a foundation or site rather than the building standing in 1851. This remains unresolved; no building-history conclusion is drawn.
The catalogue independently names John Evans, Rector, on both returns. That fact does not establish why he served both places or connect the two buildings.
