The assessment as last published
Carried over unchanged from v1.0.0 (18 October 2026). Links point inside this site.
Chronology and catalogue links — assessed 10-10-2026: See the Institutional Involvement Roadmap (1877–2026) for the date-ordered institution, people and evidence sequence. The reported 1988 Cadw-to-Minister spot-listing letter has its own placeholder at GHF-E152; the original has not been attached to that page as at 10-10-2026. A placeholder records an evidence gap, not the letter’s contents.
Forensic Assessment — Warwick Modern Records Centre
Scope: Warwick Modern Records Centre as a custodian/discovery route for historical BP-related corporate records.
Why it matters
The BP archive is potentially the best surviving route to the private corporate record behind the 1969 acquisition, 1982–83 registration and 1984–87 litigation. The public court judgment cannot answer what internal documents BP possessed but did not put before the court.
Forensic control test
Identify the BP group collection, access restrictions, file references, depositor, date of deposit and scope of search. Priority subjects are Western Ground Rents, BP Pension Trust/BP Properties, Great House Farm/Llandough, the 1969 conveyance, 1971 abstract, Land Registry applications, 1984–87 litigation and 1988 development/demolition.
Current finding
As at 10-10-2026, the material reviewed does not establish archive wrongdoing. This assessment is limited to the custody/search trail identified here. The archive’s importance is evidential: a surviving corporate file can establish who knew what and when without relying on inference from public records.
Human action
Complete the targeted BP archive/successor preservation request already recorded as HubSpot P1-24 and request precise collection/file references. Record every negative result with its search scope and access reason.
Acceptance: BP/WGR archive search complete, file references captured and each relevant item classified for disclosure value.
Institutional appearance timeline — linked source index
Coverage rule: this is a chronological navigation map of published Wiki source pages found by searching the current site index for “Warwick Modern Records Centre”. Every event label links directly to the page containing the source. It avoids duplicating source narratives. It records mention/appearance, not culpability. The displayed date is a source/title date cue, not automatically the date on which the named institution acted. This matters for newspaper stories, later summaries and titles naming more than one event; open the source before attributing an act. Search indexing is a discovery aid, not proof of exhaustive coverage. 🕒
| Source date cue (not necessarily institutional action date) | Event / source — open evidence | Record class |
|---|---|---|
| 31 December 1969 | GHF-E131 — 31 December 1969 WGR to BP Pension Trust conveyance (root of title), with plan | Published Wiki evidence page |
Records-access register appearances — direct row links
Rows below match the institution’s name or an alias in the reply register’s sender/reference or recorded description. A match shows an appearance in the records trail, not necessarily an act by this institution.

|---|---|---|
| 29 Sep – 2 Oct 2026 | R48 — Replies to the 28 Sep 2026 preservation notices | Register row contains a name/alias match; inspect the linked row to distinguish sender, recipient and incidental mention. |

Liability indicators (our reading): none
- Duty
- Custody and cataloguing of deposited records (Public Records Act 1958 for public records and places of deposit; the deposit terms for private collections); FOIA 2000 / EIR 2004 for information about holdings; an accurate catalogue is the finding aid the public relies on.
- Indicators the duty was not met
- none found in the correspondence on file.
- Evidence still needed to confirm
- the institution’s retention schedule and disposal record for the series in question; the catalogue or file list it searched; any internal review or complaint outcome.
- Likely extent of exposure if confirmed
- Limited to the custodial record unless a mis-catalogued or withheld item is shown to have kept evidence from a decision-maker; then it may extend to the cost of putting the record right.
