# Feria Provincial del Libro del Chubut (Gaiman, early June): the in-person Welsh-heritage book door

## What it is (primary pages read 31 Oct 2026)
- **42ª Feria Provincial del Libro y 22ª Feria Patagónica del Libro: Thu 4 - Sun 7 June 2026, Gimnasio Municipal de Gaiman** (El Chubut, 30 May 2026). Organised by the **Biblioteca Popular "Richard Jones Berwyn"** (CONABIP 3041) with the Province's Secretaría de Cultura and Gaiman municipality. It receives "librerías, editoriales y expositores de distintos puntos del país"; 2026 programme had four training workshops (oral storytelling, children's literature).
- Gaiman is the Welsh tea-house town of the Chubut valley; Berwyn is a Welsh colonist name. This is the one annual book event held **inside** the Welsh-Patagonian heartland (FILBA is 1,400 km away).
- **Next edition (43ª) expected early June 2027** - dates not announced; recheck Feb-Mar 2027.

## The rules (2015 call, Diario Jornada 7 Feb 2015 - the only full call text found; 2027 call not checked)
- Open to writers, researchers, critics, librarians, editors, booksellers, illustrators, translators, reading promoters, journalists. Registration closed **20 April** for a June fair (about 6-7 weeks before).
- **Talks (ponencias/charlas/conferencias):** send an abstract of no more than one page; panels max **10 minutes per speaker**.
- **Workshops/seminars** (literary, historical, photography...): send a work plan (time, sessions, group size, concept).
- **Book presentations:** send **two printed copies** + admission form; the book must be recent and **printed** before 31 March of the fair year. **Authors may not sell individually** - sales only through bookshops with a stand, by prior agreement with them.
- Literary prizes are given at the fair (Certamen "Gonzalo Delfino"; Certamen Internacional de Autobiografías "Ricardo Berwyn").

## What this means for an e-book-only publisher
- A **book presentation slot needs a printed book** -> not open to an e-book-only title (unless a short print run exists).
- A **10-minute talk / panel** and a **historical workshop** need no printed book -> that is our door. A talk can end with a QR code to the Spanish edition; no selling on the floor, which suits an online sale anyway.
- In-person delivery needs a speaker in Gaiman in June. Remote participation was not mentioned in any call read -> **not checked**; ask in the registration email.
- The library is a CONABIP popular library: a gift of the Spanish e-book (and later a print copy) to its collection is a natural first contact, before asking for a slot.

## Practitioner evidence
- Patagonian regional authors use the fair as their main presentation venue (El Chubut / Jornada coverage of each edition: workshops, presentations, prize anthologies). **No numbers on books sold were found** - mark sales impact as not checked; treat it as a relationship + local-press event, not a sales channel.

## How to do it (timeline for 2027)
1. **Feb 2027:** watch El Chubut / Jornada / the library's social pages for the 43ª call; note the closing date (historically ~20 April).
2. **By early April:** draft a one-page abstract in Spanish, e.g. "De Llandough a la Patagonia: una casa galesa y sus registros (siglos XVIII-XX)" - archive-led, dated sources, no assertions about living people.
3. Send to [address kept in the project workspace] from the publisher's own mailbox (owner sends; we draft only). Ask: talk slot, remote option, and whether a donated e-book/print copy is welcome.
4. **June:** if accepted, prepare a 10-minute slide talk + QR to /ebooks/ (Spanish), and alert the societies (Asociación San David, Puerto Madryn association) and Chubut press the week before.

## How we apply it to Cedwyn
- **Proposal:** a HubSpot draft task "[BIZDEV] Gaiman Feria Provincial del Libro 2027 - talk abstract (es)" due 1 Mar 2027, body = the abstract draft + the contact above. Draft only; the project lead sends or approves; nothing goes out before his GO.
- Pair it with the Puerto Madryn tie (Cedwyn II is placed in Puerto Madryn in the Argentina half) so one Chubut trip or one remote talk covers both.
- Public text rules apply: never name the project lead; banned words list; no family holdings; no outbound links in site copy (the fair is mentioned as an event, not linked).
- If the documentary has a Spanish-subtitled clip ready by June 2027, offer a 2-minute screening inside the talk (asks no extra spend).
- No spend: no stand fee is needed for a talk (stand fees for exhibitors were not published -> not checked).
