Feedspot 'best blogs' / RSS lists: a GATE for Cedwyn (free submit only, expect ~0 traffic)
Harvested 2026-10-31 16:16Z (skills harvest). 'feedspot' 0 in INDEX before. Distinct from heritage/genealogy directory listings (GENUKI etc.), Flipboard, and newsletter recommendation networks, which are covered.
What the sources show (read 31 Oct 2026 unless marked)
- Feedspot home page (snippet): assertions '30+ Million users visited FeedSpot lists' and '30+ Million users sent to Creator's website'; free 'Submit your Blog, Podcast or Social Media Profile'. Its business is selling a contact database ('Get 250k Bloggers, Podcasters and Publications ... with email contacts', 'Export Full Database'), plus paid 'Sponsor this list'.
- 'Top 15 Wales RSS Feeds' (rss.feedspot.com, read): updated 20 Aug 2026; mixes WalesOnline, South Wales Argus, Business News Wales with small lifestyle blogs (Cardiff Mummy states, a wedding magazine, a chocolate blog). No history site on it, so the bar to appear is low. Every outbound link is rel="nofollow" (27 checked).
- '28 Best UK History Blogs' (bloggers.feedspot.com, read): updated 22 Oct 2026; the page itself shows 'Total Views 5K' (lifetime list views); ranked by relevance, expertise, posting frequency and freshness; entries show partly masked email, location, Facebook/Twitter counts and domain authority; links nofollow. Historic UK, History Today, HistoryExtra, British Museum blog lead it.
- Practitioner testimony: r/Blogging (snippet): listed in a Feedspot top-100 at #72, 'two weeks ago and I've had 0 traffic from them.' A Cornwall history site owner posted pride at a top-50 Cornwall ranking (Facebook group, snippet) - social proof, no traffic number.
Verdict
Low value, low cost. A listing gives a credibility line and a place in a feed reader; it gives no SEO link (nofollow) and near-zero referral traffic (5K lifetime views on a 28-entry national list; testimony of 0 visits). The real cost is privacy and spam: listing pages show the site's contact email and the database sells it.
The skill (if we do it)
- Only the free 'Submit Your Blog' form; never 'Sponsor this list', never a paid 'featured' upgrade, never buy the database.
- Submit the feed, not a person: the Cedwyn Atom/RSS feed URL and a role inbox (a Tab mail address or a site address), never a personal Gmail or a family member's name.
- Target lists where we genuinely fit: UK History blogs, Wales RSS feeds, Genealogy/Family history blogs. Posting frequency matters to their ranking, so only submit once the feed has a steady weekly cadence.
- Measure honestly: referrers containing 'feedspot' in the beacon/Cloudflare logs for 30 days; record 0 as 0. Drop the channel if under 5 visits in 60 days.
- Expect inbound pitches to the listed address ('guest post', 'sponsored post' offers) - ignore; no replies, no payment.
How we apply it to Cedwyn
- Gate: submitting a form in the project's name is an outward step, so it waits for the project lead's word; until then nothing is submitted. Cost if approved: about 5 minutes, zero spend.
- If approved: submit cedwyn.bucklerfamily.estate's feed to the UK History and Wales lists with the [address kept in the project workspace] role address; log date and list URL in the project workspace; add 'feedspot' to the growth report referrer watch.
- Do not cite a Feedspot rank on the site as a quality claim unless the live list shows it, dated.
- Better use of the same five minutes, by the numbers above: one Wikisource/People's Collection contribution or one Talis-ready record page (see the reading-lists skill).
