# Skill: Facebook Page fan engagement tools (top / rising fan badges, weekly engagement list), with a gate
Written 1 Nov 2026 (skills harvest). Topic: recognising the few people who engage with the Page, so they keep engaging and their comments stand out. Before this, the index had no file on badges or the engagement list ('top fan', 'rising fan', 'fan badge', 'engagement list' all 0). This complements `facebook-page-invites-reactors-auto-group-invites.md` (getting followers) and `facebook-stars-page-monetisation-gate-500-followers.md` (another follower gate).

## What the sources show (read 1 Nov 2026)
- **Meta's own guidance.** Source: Meta for Government & Nonprofits blog, "About Top and Rising Fan Badges", 23 Jul 2025, read in full.
  - **Who earns them.** Badges go to "the most active engagers": likes or reactions, comments and shares. A person must accept the badge before it shows next to their name.
  - **What they're for.** They "enable you to easily see comments from your most engaged followers and then react or reply to their comment".
  - **Off by default, with a gate.** Only "profiles with at least 10,000 followers or Pages and profiles with professional mode and at least 100 followers" can use them.
  - **Who can't earn one.** Facebook friends of the profile can't become its top or rising fans, and blocked users can't earn badges.
  - **Removing a badge.** Only from the mobile app: tap the badge on their comment, then Remove.
- **Where the switches are.** Facebook Help 340839444325641 (search snippet; page body not rendered): Menu > Professional dashboard > Fan engagement tools > toggle Top fan / Rising fan. An admin's screenshot transcription (group post, snippet only) shows the same panel with a "Weekly engagement list", split into Top fans / Rising fans / New followers.
- **Practitioner caveat.** Source: Sotrender knowledge base, read; it's an analytics vendor, so it's selling something.
  - A badge goes to active people whatever they say, so a persistent complainer can earn one.
  - The badge tells you who, but not how much. A per-person interaction count (reactions, comments, active days) is more useful.
  - The vendor's figures are "10,000 followers" and "100 followers + professional mode", the same gate as Meta's.
- **No numbers.** I found no published figure for how much badges lift comments or reach. Brafton's 2026 explainer (read) calls it gamification and gives no figures. Treat any lift as not checked.

## How-to
1. **Gate.** Check the follower count. Under 100, the badges aren't available. Do step 4 by hand instead.
2. **At 100+.** Professional dashboard > Fan engagement tools: turn on Top fan and Rising fan. Note the date in the growth log, so any change in comments afterwards can be read against it (a before/after read, weak by nature).
3. **Weekly, 10 minutes.**
   - Open the Weekly engagement list.
   - Reply by name to each top or rising fan's latest comment, with something specific: a record reference, a question back.
   - Badge holders' comments are the first to answer.
4. **Do-it-yourself version (any size).**
   - Once a week, list everyone who commented or shared, from the Page's posts.
   - Keep a running count per person: comments, shares, active weeks. Keep it in a private file, never published.
   - Thank repeat people in replies. Never in a post that names private individuals without asking.
5. **Never do these.**
   - Don't tag or list badge holders in public "shout-out" posts without their OK. Badges are visible, but a roll-call is a choice.
   - Don't use them for DMs, sales asks or "invite your friends" pushes.
   - Remove a badge only for abuse, not for disagreement.
6. **Read.** Comments per post and replies per commenter, month on month. Expect noise at our scale.

## How we apply it to Cedwyn
- **Status: GATED.** The growth sheet (W43) shows the Great House Farm II Page at about 1 follower, so badges aren't available. Re-check at each Sunday growth report; when fb ≥ 100, do step 2 once.
- **Until then:** step 4 by hand inside the existing Sunday growth run, which already counts visitor comments (0 last week). Reply to every genuine comment within a day, citing the record page on cedwyn (internal link only).
- **Family and friends won't show up as top fans.** People who are the profile owner's Facebook friends can't earn badges. Early warm-circle engagement won't show as fans, which is fine. Don't read "no top fans" as "no engagement".
- **Public wording.**
  - Replies use neutral record language, with none of the banned words.
  - Never name the project owner or living family.
  - No accusations, no court-case arguing in comment threads: point to the evidence page instead.
- **Zero spend, no DMs to strangers, no new channels.** This is a setting on the existing Page only, switched on through the existing Page login when the gate opens.
