Dydd Miwsig Cymru (Welsh Language Music Day), Fri 5 Feb 2027: a small heritage post, no outbound links
Harvested 2026-10-31 ~19:30Z. Jan-Mar Welsh calendar gap: Hen Galan (welsh-midwinter-customs-...md), Dydd Santes Dwynwen (st-dwynwens-day-25-jan-...md) and St David's Day (st-davids-day-2027-...md) are already covered. This file adds the February moment that sits between them.
Facts (with sources)
- Date: 5 February 2027. The Welsh Government page (read 31 Oct 2026) heads "Dydd Miwsig Cymru 2027 ... 5 February 2027 is Welsh Language Music Day". Earlier years ran on the second Friday (2026: Fri 13 Feb, Wales.com). Some third-party calendars give 12 Feb 2027, so check the gov.wales page again in early January before scheduling.
- What it is: a Welsh Government campaign, run "for over a decade" (Wales.com), celebrating all genres of Welsh-language music. Official tags are #Miwsig / #DyddMiwsigCymru, with the handle @Miwsig on Facebook, X, Instagram and YouTube. Official Spotify playlists include "Best of Wales" and "Welsh Miwsig for your business". gov.wales offers downloadable promo resources.
- How organisations took part in 2026 (Wales.com, read): businesses and offices played Welsh-language music for the day, schools held sing-alongs and music-discovery lessons, and dozens of gigs were listed on the awni database. Sain Records, one of Britain's oldest indie labels, used the day to put its 1990s-2000s Welsh-language archive online. That is the heritage-brand pattern: release something from your archive on the day.
- No numbers published. I found no published stream or reach figures for 2025-2026 (search plus the gov.wales and Wales.com pages). Treat the uplift as unmeasured, and measure our own post instead (see below).
The play (practitioner pattern: an archive release timed to the day)
- Pick one archive item about Welsh-language song or speech from the place's own record: a hymn, a chapel or eisteddfod mention, a Welsh place-name note. Public-domain or our own material only. Don't use a recording we don't hold rights to.
- Make one bilingual post, Welsh first, using the layout in bilingual-welsh-english-layout-posts-cards-email.md. Use the two official tags and nothing more (max 3 hashtags, per house rule).
- Tie it to the record. One line on why the language matters to the place's story, for example that Welsh was the everyday spoken language in the area until about 1970 (the house line used in the movie brief). End on an internal link to the matching Cedwyn page. No outbound links on the site.
- Measure. Use a UTM-tagged link (utm_campaign=miwsig2027) and compare /wales/ sessions on 5-7 Feb with the previous three Fridays (cf_traffic.py, non-US HTML 200).
How we apply it to Cedwyn (PROPOSED, needs the project lead's GO before any posting)
- Site, a free action with no account needed. PROPOSED patch, not committed: a short bilingual note on /wales/, plus a blog item through the existing cedwyn-blog Worker, scheduled for 5 Feb 2027. Draft body:
- CY: "Dydd Miwsig Cymru hapus. Cymraeg oedd iaith bob dydd yr ardal hon tan tua 1970 - darllenwch y cofnodion yn Gymraeg ac yn Saesneg." (Welsh needs a speaker's check before use.)
- EN: "Happy Welsh Language Music Day. Welsh was the everyday language here until about 1970 - read the records in Welsh and English."
- Link: the /wales/ hub and /ebooks/ (the shop strip is already on /wales/ after PR #76).
- Social: schedule one post in the daily auto-social queue (Facebook Great House Farm II + Instagram @cedwynestate) for 5 Feb 2027 08:15. Adding it to the queue is a posting change, so it needs the project lead's GO. Never DM, never post in groups.
- Rules check: never name the project lead publicly; no banned words; no insignia; no family holdings; Welsh text checked by a speaker; no claim that Sain or the Welsh Government endorse us.
- Side hook, same fortnight: Dydd Mawrth Ynyd (Shrove Tuesday) falls on 9 Feb 2027 (Easter 28 Mar 2027 minus 47 days, computed). A crempog (Welsh pancake) line is an optional extra post. No primary source for local custom was read, so it stays as a recipe and calendar hook only, with no history assertions.
